Do you want to work on products that help make the world a better place?

Would you enjoy working with a diverse, talented, and passionate team to make sure that researchers and policy makers around the world have the best data and insights for their communities to be successful?

Do you love working with the latest technology and tools?

If so, this is your opportunity to work on applications used around the world, in a position where your work can make a difference to improve the livelihoods of millions of people.

What we do
We take real world government data and research, and turn them into interactive data tools affecting policy at the highest levels and citizens worldwide. The Atlas of Economic Complexity is our current online tool that lets users interactively visualize a country’s trade and explore growth opportunities for more than a hundred countries worldwide. We build tools that can ultimately help many stakeholders eradicate poverty.

CID has partnered with countries and firms (like MasterCard) who for the first time are making their vast data sets available to create public goods and insights. We're now working with individual countries, like Colombia and Mexico, to take their biggest civic datasets and use them to drive regional development using network analysis and visualization.

What you’ll do

  • Work with our UI designer to implement designs in clean, modern cross-browser, mobile friendly, and standards-compliant HTML/ CSS / Javascript
  • Organize current code bases and optimize loading speed in coordination with the backend developer (Django / Python)
  • Help build and integrate new visualizations for large amounts of data into websites

You'll be a good fit if...

  • You have strong working knowledge of HTML/CSS and Javascript
  • You have experience, or you are interested in learning about data visualization, d3, etc.
  • Your interest is piqued by economic and social development issues
  • You’ve worked with frontend frameworks like ember, angular, react, and others
  • You use git and open source workflows
  • You have strong organizational skills and experience working in an environment that has used Agile or Scrum, etc.
  • You take pride in writing high quality code and often read and learn about how to improve it
  • You are creative and have a good sense of humor.

Our stack
We use a variety of tools for each project. The most common ones are Python, Django/flask, Postgres, elasticsearch and ansible for the back end. For the frontend, it's ember and d3 and WebGL with Three.js on some 3D projects that we’ve launched such as the Globe of Economic Complexity. Everything we do is open source.
